Esher Rugby Club was delighted to welcome members, sponsors and guests to a hugely enjoyable City Lunch on Thursday 7th May, held at Brasserie Blanc, Threadneedle Street, in the heart of London.
Hosted by renowned broadcaster John Inverdale, the event featured a very special guest Gavin Henson, one of the most talented and charismatic rugby players of the past 25 years. Guests enjoyed an excellent lunch and lively conversation as Gavin reflected on an extraordinary career representing Wales and the British & Irish Lions.
Known as much for his flair and presence off the pitch as his ability on it, Gavin shared candid stories from his playing days, offering fascinating insights into elite sport and life beyond rugby. His reflections delivered with honesty, humour and warmth captivated the room throughout the afternoon.
John Inverdale was the expert host as he led the conversation with Gavin, drawing out memorable anecdotes from his career, including the highs of Grand Slam success with Wales and the intense pressures of performing at the very top of the professional game. The audience was fully engaged with his charismatic style and were thoroughly engaged with his anecdotes which was refreshing and unique to the rugby norm, with plenty of laughter and lively engagement during an excellent Q&A session.
The lunch once again highlighted the strength of the Esher Rugby community, bringing together long-standing supporters, sponsors, members and friends of the club in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. Events such as these play a vital role in supporting the club both on and off the field, while strengthening the bonds that make Esher Rugby such a special place.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who attended, to our sponsors and organisers for making the day possible, and of course to Gavin Henson and John Inverdale for delivering such an entertaining and memorable afternoon.
We look forward to welcoming everyone to future Esher Rugby events in the months ahead.
