Esher RFC is very grateful to have received a significant legacy from the estate of Gill Cheesbrough who died suddenly and unexpectedly earlier this year.

Gill had been a supporter of Esher since the early 1990s and came to matches, both home and away, regularly for over 30 years. She was initially a member when she worked in London in banking but ended her membership on principle after feeling she was overlooked for the role of General Manager in 1995.

That didn’t stop her support for the Club, and she travelled all over the country, splitting her time between Surrey and Cheshire where she supported her late mother. The two bases helped her to cover grounds as far apart as Tynedale and Penzance as Esher travelled the country at Levels 2 and 3.

She built up a group of friends among the other travelling supporters and also with many of the players who were grateful for her ongoing support. She was a vocal critic of referees, especially those who decided against Esher but a great supporter of coaches such as Hugh McHardy and Mike Schmid.

She was found dead at home in Cheshire earlier this year and several long-standing Esher supporters travelled to her funeral to pay their last respects to her.

The circle has now closed with her legacy to the Club, another fond memory of a quiet but committed supporter of Esher Rugby.
