At Esher Rugby Club there’s a powerful belief in early engagement, inclusion and the importance of community. In recent years, the club’s minis section has undergone a quiet transformation, becoming a model of what grassroots sport can look like when built around values rather than just results.

The club’s approach to development starts early - well before players officially enter competitive age groups. The club has a programme known as “Little Lions” which introduces children under five to the sport in a fun environment. Although the programme had faded in the past, its recent revival marked a significant moment. It not only provided a new gateway into rugby but also gave young families a reason to connect with the club from the very beginning of their children’s sporting journeys.
