Esher RFC – Key Appointment to U16s Head Coach and Head of Youth Development Pathway

Esher RFC – Key Appointment to U16s Head Coach and Head of Youth Development Pathway

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Jake Cottrell (picture below) to two key roles:

  • U16 squad Head Coach
  • Head of Youth Development Pathway at Esher Rugby Club.

As U16 Head Coach, Jake will be responsible for leading the age group's Coaching team, building on the squad's success over the last few years. He will also deliver Esher's One Club Strategy through the Youth Development Pathway from U16 through to adult rugby.

This new framework is designed to give our Youth Rugby players an Academy level coaching experience where possible, alongside a clear development pathway into our senior rugby sides. This will provide top class player development and coaching, in a supportive and collaborative manner with the Senior sides, enabling our Youth players to enjoy their rugby, but also to understand how they can grow into the best sporting athletes and rugby players that they can be. As a newly promoted English National One Side, creating clear pathways for home grown talent to thrive and progress, is a key part of Esher's long-term, One Club Strategy.

Jake is a Level 3 Rugby coach with over 15 years of experience and a proven track record of leading, coaching and developing rugby players of all ages, combined with a delivery of success in its broadest sense.

Jake has held a number of senior coaching roles at clubs including Ealing Trailfinders, Quins DPP, London Irish DPP, Wasps DPP, Farnham RFC and Director of Rugby at Met Police RFC. He also held the role of Lead Coach for Surrey U16s and U18s age groups. Jake holds an MSc Professional Development- Rugby Performance from St Marys University and is currently Head of Boys PE at Bishopsgate School in Egham.

Jake commented: 'I am very excited to be joining Esher Rugby Club in its Centenary Year, given its ambitions across Senior and Youth rugby. With so much talent to work with I am looking forward to starting that development journey with them all."

Jake will be joining up with the U16 squad to lead Pre-Season Training at the start of Summer 2024.

Please join me in welcoming Jake to Esher Rugby Club in our Centenary Year.

Regards
