On Friday the club once again hosted a fantastic evening to remember Sam Potter, a valued member of our community who was taken before his time. The Sam Potter invitational team (SP15), made up of Sam's team mates from his youth age group, were victorious against an invitational abbots side, made up of club members who played for the abbots since it re-formed in 2017. The match was extremely entertaining with end to end action, physical tackles and highly contested breakdowns - to the unknowing spectator it was not obvious it was a 'friendly' - and that is exactly how Sam would want it to be played. The final score was 36- 24 to SP15.
After the match, the hundreds of spectators regrouped in the club house where tributes were made to Sam by his father Kevin and family friend Gavin Bethell, the players of the match from both teams were presented with a new pair of socks (one of Sam's favorite things) and the Sam Potter Cup was presented by Kevin and Lindsay Potter to Alex Bethal, the SP15 captain.
All round it was a very special evening and we look forward to hosting it again next year. When you subscribe to the blog, we will send you an e-mail when there are new updates on the site so you wouldn't miss them.
