A dominant home performance puts Esher in pole position for Cup Final.
A switch of fixture meant an early kick-off as we hosted Reigate before all the other matches at Molesey Road on Sunday. Although we were allowed to play on the 1st XV pitch.
It was a cagey start as both teams battle for possession of the ball and Esher made the breakthrough as Jack outpaced the defence down the right wing to score in the corner. A second try by Matthew bursting through their defensive line seemed to relax the boys and Reigate exploited this dip in intensity when their standout scrum half broke several tackles to make it 2-1.
An immediate response from Jack settled any nerves. Henry was all but neutralising their scrum half and when Ashley smashed him into touch, Reigate's resistance began to dissolve. Conor jinxed his way through for Esher's fourth and we went into the break comfortable but with only half the job done.
A powerful run and second try for Matthew put the host 5-1 up. The boys were working really hard and starting to tire and this allowed the visitors through to score a second try.
Quick thinking from Conor saw him dab down a loose ball in their in-goal area and restore E's four try lead. Everyone dug deep to keep a late Reigate push at bay and our fitness showed when Jack ran through for Esher's 7th and his hat-trick.
This win moves us to 2nd place in Pool A, three points behind Farnham who have played all their games. A win for Esher at struggling OWW (Covid-19 dependant) will mean we top Pool A with our unassailable points difference and a place in the Cup Final.
