Match Report: Esher u13 v London Welsh

Esher 4 London Welsh 5

Sunday 23rd February 2020

A game of four quarters played out in strong winds saw the visitors edge a win.

After an initial period of the two sides sizing each other up, Esher opened the scoring with a great individual try from Jack, evading several tackles in his own half and sprinting up the right wing to score.

A rare sustained period of possession allowed Esher to push deep into the oppo's half and we were rewarded when Ben burst through a couple of defenders to power over for our second.

What followed was a purple patch for the visitor who scored five unopposed tries either side of half time. A couple of wind assisted kick chases and good use of the width put Welsh in a commanding position.

The match was becoming increasingly ill tempered and eventually led to the ref having to stop the play and speak to both teams.

This appeared to galvanise Esher who began to claw their way back into the game. A lovely pick and go by Matthew, driving on despite a number of defenders hanging on to him and reaching out to score our third try.

Charlie sprinted through and predicted the bounce of Danny's kick perfectly to collect the ball full stride and touch down for Esher's fourth try. Unfortunately, he was ruled offside and the scored remained 3-5.

Esher continued to press and a nice series of passes saw Daniel B. dab down in the corner to make it 4-5.

LW responded well and managed to work their way up the field but resolute defending by Esher kept them out.

A difficult day for everyone on the pitch and the boys finished muddier, bloodier and hopefully a little wiser.

Man Of The Match was Josh.
