General announcements of progress and fundraising during the Covid pandemic

Announcement: 2nd July

Esher Rugby is delighted to announce that it has reached an agreement in principle for Championship club London Scottish to play their first XV matches at Molesey Road from September 2021. The plan is for the arrangement to last for two seasons, with an option to continue for a further two. London Scottish have ground-shared with Richmond for more than a century at the Athletic Ground - a link that will finish at the end of the forthcoming season

Esher president Ross Howard has described the proposal as 'a boost for the game of rugby' in Esher and the surrounding area

'At a time when the sport is facing a whole raft of challenges, it will be great to be able to offer the area a high quality rugby match to watch just about every weekend of the season. London Scottish have a rich history and we are sure they will enjoy using our facilities at Esher before they finally find a home of their own'

Members will be kept updated at regular intervals about the more detailed planning surrounding the link-up. We intend to have an FAQ available on the website shortly, relating to some of the more obvious issues that will arise

Summer Update: 3rd June

As you will be aware we have been working to ensure that the club is in shape for next season and despite furloughing most of the staff we have made good progress. Fundraising has been hugely successful so far with contributions from many and for that we are hugely grateful – it shows how many people care about our club

Please note that we are inviting all members to renew membership with a special incentive for season tickets for 2021/2, knowing that we are still uncertain about the start date for the season (see News items for more detail). The General Committee has considered this long and hard and has decided to invite membership renewal inline with normal timescales to ensure funds are received to further ensure the club is protected over the Summer and into the Autumn.

New way to raise funds at no cost to you!

We have now launched a new initiative where you can help raise funds without it costing you a penny. Just sign up to the Easyfundraising scheme CLICK HER and do your online shopping via the Easyfundraising website and selecting the retailer for example 'Amazon' then continue to shop as you normally would. Esher Rugby will benefit from a small donation from the retailer and this will not affect the price you pay for your goods. To quote one retail giant 'every little assists' or something like that!

Many of you have been very generous and we have raised in excess of £20,000 on the GoFundMe campaign, this is still open for those that wish to help that haven't yet had an opportunity and any additional funds will particularly help to ensure that our pitches are in the best possible shape for the start of next season. We have also raised funds through the Online Silent Auction and currently there are two of Laura Davies' very own putters for the golf enthusiast, these were kindly donated by Tony Mitchell who is a friend of hers.
