Esher Rugby message from the President - Ross Howard

Our final game of the season saw us win at Blackheath with a performance full of heart and skill, picking up all five points in the process. Unfortunately, as expected, other clubs at the lower end of the table picked up points as well, resulting in relegation being confirmed. Although the season as a whole had been disappointing, our team never gave anything but one hundred percent in effort throughout and the very fact that we enjoyed victories over Ampthill, Rosslyn Park and Blackheath, all of whom finished in the top four, illustrated that the squad could win any game.

However, over a League season of thirty games, the final table is always a fair reflection of the events of the previous eight months and we as a club accept our fate as part of the unpredictable nature of sport that brings many upsides and downsides. It is however also, of great importance, that at times like these, we also stick closely together in our mission for Esher Rugby as a club that offers Rugby at all levels within our Community and strides to have our 1st XV play at the best level that our finances can afford.

Although the club's on field activities in National one, have not ended as well as we hoped, our quarterly and annual finances continue to improve and our goal to utilise the club facilities has provided us with considerable comfort for the future. Our thanks to all involved.

We now have to look forward and we do so with a positive outlook, our recent announcement of the new coaching team with Peter Winterbottom as Director of Rugby and former player, Chris Wilkins, as head of recruitment and assistant coach is a statement of our intent for the future. We have already secured the services of Paul Roberts and Tom Cheeseman as part of the new coaching set up, with Tom hoping to continue playing 1st team Rugby as well. It is also very welcome to see a number of our core players commit to the club next season.

We now move into the summer break but please rest assured that we will approach next season with a very positive approach and feel confident that our 1st XV will play good attacking rugby that will be very competitive and up to the challenges ahead.

Finally to all our members and supporters, our thanks for the season and we truly hope that you will join us for the excitements of the new season once Autumn is upon us.

Ross Howard
