With the new season fast approaching Esher Rugby is delighted to confirm some new arrivals who will add strength to the 1st XV, as well as 2 key players returning. These players are in addition to those who trained with us last year and played in the May matches.
Certain to make his mark is centre Luke Peters. Luke last played for Nottingham for whom he played 46 times, captaining them in many of those games. Luke also has Championship experience with Rotherham and Ealing so brings a lot of knowledge and experience to the backline.
At scrumhalf we welcome Pierre Thompson who joins having been an Exeter Academy player appearing regularly for Exeter's second string. Pierre played with Sam Morley at Plymouth and his last League action was for Taunton against Esher in March 2020 when he scored! He will challenge the returning Sam Bullock for that key role.
In the back row we welcome Fin McBrearty from Loughborough where he played 12 matches in their National 2 team and No.8 Toby Francis from Leeds Beckett where he played in their BUCS winning team in 2019. Toby was brought up in Marbella and has already represented Spain.
Returning to us is Cameron Wilkins. Cameron has completed his studies at Loughborough and is looking forward to restarting his rugby career at Esher.
There will be other new players joining before the season starts and we will keep you up to speed with player developments as they happen.
Some players who joined us last summer have yet to play League matches but have trained with us and featured in our May festival matches earlier this year. Props Theo Skoumbourdis and David Coutts both joined from Sutton, having played previously for Esher while hooker Andy Hamilton is back having switched to us from Blackheath who had previously loaned him to us.
In the second row we welcomed Alex Stanley who is an RAF player with experience at Bury St Edmunds. In the back row Harvey Scott joined us having previously been with Blackheath. Fly-half Sam Morley joined us from Exeter, having played at Plymouth on loan, and was vice-captain in May.
In the outside backs we saw Rhodri Adamson, who will play primarily at full-back. Rhodri has played for Richmond, Coventry, Cambridge and Blaydon and is also a Jamaica 7s player. Also seen in May was Harri Lang, a wing from Newport, and Aporosa Bainikolo, who is a serving soldier based in London. Also look out for Cam Roberts from Hartpury College and Myles Rawstron-Rudd from Blackheath.
We also have to announce the departure of prop Cam Leigh who has joined Barnes. Cam Leigh appeared in 89 matches for Esher over 6 years, although he only started 17. He will be remembered for his patience on the bench as well as his outstanding contribution as a squad member over those years.
Director of Rugby Peter Winterbottom has been busy this summer shaping this squad to produce results on the pitch under Adam Bullett's leadership in what promises to be an exciting season for Esher Rugby.
