JOIN THE BRAND NEW ‘WHEATSHEAF ESHER CLUB’!
The Rugby Club’s Centenary season (the 2022/23 season) is only four seasons away and following relegation last season the Club’s aim is to bounce back into National One for season 20/21 under the guidance of new Director of Rugby, Peter Winterbottom. The Club is determined to approach it’s Centenary season in a strong position with a sense of optimism and momentum for the future.
Whilst success in National League rugby is not all about finances and we are determined to punch well above our financial weight, it is still a huge factor in determining which clubs are successful in the long run.
The Wheatsheaf Esher Club is an idea that the Committee has picked up on it’s travels around other National League clubs. The purpose of the club is to provide some additional financial (and moral) support to the First XV squad, thus taking some pressure of the rest of the club’s finances. In return the members will benefit from some exclusive benefits as set out below.
Why the Wheatsheaf you may ask? Well unbeknown to many, the club was formed in 1923 when four rugby enthusiasts, enjoying a pint at the Wheatsheaf in Esher, decided to form the Club. In fact, old Photos of Esher Rugby players are proudly displayed in the Wheatsheaf toilets. All joking aside though, the four gentlemen, through their creation of the Club and the tie up with the Wheatsheaf have bought a lot of happiness, camaraderie, fond memories and friendships to many many people. We have therefore named the Wheatsheaf Club after the venue where they formed the club.
