Well first weekend back for the new year and not a cobweb in site. Whatever the boys ate over the Christmas break, please continue to feed them! To say I, and the other coaches, were impressed and proud is an understatement. A really great start to the year – lets keep it going.
So how will we keep it going? That is simple it’s purely down to the right attitude. It was made clear, at the start of session on Sunday, to all the boys that the next 3 months is a lead up to the start of next year and life as Juniors and not Minis. The difference will be simple – we go from training the boys to be the best players they can be training them to be a winning team – and that is down to state of mind.
All boys will have the same chance to prove themselves and be considered for the A team – and each week that can change – when you get your chance be sure to take it – that’s the mentality we now need to develop. We will continue to ensure all boys get play time, but as we reach the end of the season the boys also need to respect the fact that we have the Surrey A Festival as our goal and for that we will only take the best 18 players.
Fun, enjoyment and developing skills will remain our goal for all boys, however, we will now also be introducing the competitive element, and looking to instil the winning mentality and habit.
Well done to Kem for an outstanding performance of skill, great body position, commitment, energy, strength and leading by example, which won him the Player of the Week trophy. However, there were many other players who also could have won it.
So, a great team performance, a great effort from all boys, and a great start to the year – lets keep it going next week by having the same turnout and attitude please.
P.S. A reminder of the moves is attached PLEASE make sure your son knows these.
P.P.S. Attached is also a summary of the positions boys will be playing for (as advised by the boys) – let me know if these change
