After our last competitive matches of 2013 at Dorking we finished the year on a winning note with some very impressive team and individual performances. Everyone stepped up to the mark and put in performances to be proud of. At the beginning of the session I gave each of the boys an individual goal to achieve in the matches – this was to be their focus for the matches. Many of the boys achieved these goals and more. Well done to Rory who deservedly won Player of the week for some great tackles - which was his goal.
So a great weekend of rugby at Dorking culminating in a final match which we won – taking us into 2014 in a winning spirit. Let's hope we can continue the momentum and see our improvement levels develop as they have in 2013. I, and the other coaches, are genuinely impressed with the improvements we have seen across the board as a squad and as individual players. So well done to all the boys.
Sunday saw a complete change in intensity with a fun morning of Christmas games with the parents. After the traditional catching, kicking and relay games we finished the morning with a Parents v Boys game which ending in a sporting draw. It was then into the clubhouse for a few celebration drinks, mince pies and sausage rolls (our thanks go to all those who voluntered to help out in the kitchen to supply the nibbles so much appreciated by all)
So the end of another year and what can we reflect upon…a great tour, improving skills, improved results, fun, laughter, consolidation of friendships and the creation of new friendships with our new recruits. Lets hope 2014 has more of the same!
On a personal note I would just like to say a big thanks to all the coaches, refs, parents, Paul for his Team Management and the boys for your combined commitment to, and support for, Esher RFC. I think 2013 has been a successful and enjoyable year and I look forward to sharing 2014 with you all.
