Esher U17 v Maidenhead Colts
On Sunday the 17th of November the U17 Esher team played Maidenhead Colts away. We came into the match confident after beating Teddington convincingly in our last game. However this was not displayed in the pitch with a poor first period of the game, which led to Maidenhead scoring two converted tries. Although this was a healthy lead we came back strongly, with some great play from the back line we managed to get over in the corner through Lucas. We kept up the pressure towards the end of the first half but could not break their well-organised defensive line. Our hard work was undone when a breakaway try saw Maidenhead regain their three-try advantage. The halftime score was 19-5 to Maidenhead.
The second half again started poorly as we were not switched on and Maidenhead capitalised with a quick try in the corner. Knowing that we needed to chase the game, Esher’s attacking game stepped up another level and with some great carries from Ollie, Rory and Dan we had Maidenhead on the back foot. A great team try, finished off by Charles, meant that we were back in the game. Another period of pressure saw Ollie rewarded for his great performance with a try near the corner. Although we were only nine points behind we didn’t manage to affect the scoreboard anymore, which meant the final score was 24-15 to Maidenhead.
Man of the match went to Ollie for some fantastic carries and being strong in defence. A special mention also to Ollie Deadman who we hope will recover quickly from his arm injury. A decent all round performance, with a great second half display, setting us up nicely for our second league game against Chobham next Sunday.
Well done boys!
