Resurgent Cardinals hit winning form on the road
With September behind us and a rest week to reflect on the narrow loss vs Old Albanians 2xv which scuppered our 100% win rate, it was a resurgent Cardinals which took the game to Blackheath Heathens from the off, scoring inside 2 mins through Rhys Howells. Kicking duties were handed to Jack Cooke for the day who successfully converted 6 out of 8 conversions from a variety of ranges and angles.
Further first half tries came through Skipper Charlie Gossington, Freddie Strange, a long range (1 m) effort from versatile front row David Coutts moving from usual tighthead to hooker and back again with equal ease, and the evasive Billy Harding closing the half at 5-33.
The breathing space allowed second half changes for a number returning from recent rehabilitation. Though Blackheath pulled a couple and never gave up the fight, 2 further scores from Andrew Turner sandwiched one from the exciting Anders Mogensen, who danced through the broken field to score a scintilating effort under the posts, beating 4 if not 5 defenders en route.
Final score Blackeath Heathens 15 v Esher Cardinals 52.
