Match report v Old Reigatians - 06/10/2013
On Sunday the 6th of October Esher U17 played Old Reigatians away. This was the teams first league game of the season so it was important to try and get a good start. Having played good rugby in the lead up to the match the confidence was high within the squad.
The first half started badly for Esher as within two minutes Old Reigatians centre has busted through to score a soft try. However after this Esher started to play some good rugby and pinned the opposition back in their own 22, increasing the pressure all the time. This pressure finally told as Oliver Deadman broke through and scored Esher's first try. Again we came back with great rugby from the pack and good ball retention. Ed McCarthy got the next try for Esher as he busted through the defence to give Esher a lead of 10-7.
The second half started positively as we again with pressure on the Old Reigatians line. Elliot Goodman finished off a good move from the backs to give Esher a lead of 15-7 with twenty minutes to play. However a few injuries halted the progress and allowed Old Reigatians back into the game. A period of pressure resulted in their centre scoring again under the posts to make the score 15-14. Our confidence dropped and although we defended admirably we were finally broken as they again scored under the posts, leaving the score 21-15 at full time.
It was a great performance from all the boys but an unfortunate result. We can take a lot of positives from the game and come back stronger in the next match.
Well played boys
