Garner Gears Up For Another Season at Molesey Road
Esher RFC is pleased to announce the re-signing of Andy Garner, who will play his eighth season of rugby at Molesey Road this year, a fantastic achievement for the 24 year old.
Andy has been wearing the black and amber of Esher through promotion and relegation, playing in both National One and The Championship, but has suffered with injuries over the past two years. The scrum half is keen to help the Club realise its potential once again, and commented about the ambition he has to keep playing for the Surrey side, whilst rewarding the trust Esher have shown in him as a player:
"Despite being at Esher RFC for the last seven seasons I still feel that I have a lot more to achieve at the Club. Having had the last two seasons interrupted by two serious injuries I also felt I had to repay the faith Esher had shown me. "
"It has been a very hard couple of years for me personally, having dislocated my ankle the season before last and then dislocating my shoulder the following season. That was a tough pill to swallow as it required more surgery."
With the majority of his rehab out of the way Andy is looking forward to picking up a ball again at pre-season. Esher were hit hard this year with injuries across the back-line, especially at crucial positions like scrum half. Andy's ambitions as a player reflect the ambitions of the Club, and he spoke about his drive to get back on the pitch and help guide Esher to a top position next season:
"I have a renewed enthusiasm, having done rehab for the last six months, to get stuck into training and playing again as it's not a lot of fun to watch from the sidelines. I'm ready to get back into the swing of things and get some decent game time under my belt, and cement myself as the first choice scrum half for the upcoming season."
"My aim this season is to help Esher finish in the top three of National One and be fighting for promotion in a year's time."
