What a Week!

The week got off to a flying start on Wednesday as over 150 Esher players, sponsors, supporters, committee members and staff donned their DJ’s for the 86th Annual Dinner, a fantastic night of good food, rugby banter and entertainment. Special guest Lewis Moody gave us an insight into the England camp ahead of the tournament, and the evening was ended on a high with Comedian Ian Irving keeping everyone in fits of laughter until the end. One of the club’s most valued volunteers Wendy Taylor was presented with an RFU VIP award by Lewis Moody for her services to so many areas of the club.

On Friday Joe Marler and Sam Smith on loan to Esher from Harlequins Academy did us proud, making their mark for England U20’s as they powered past Wales, with Marler clocking up two tries and Smith making numerous exciting chances in the backs. Video Highlights

The Esher first XV then put in another strong performance against tough opposition Wharfedale on Saturday, giving them their 9th consecutive win and keeping them five points clear at the top of National Division One. The game put an end however to an impressive run of 36 consecutive successful kicks for Esher’s Sam Ulph, who hadn’t missed a kick since December 5th. Report

Then the attention was drawn to the big screens in the club house as both the main bar and function room were packed out to see England off to a great start beating Wales 30-17 in the Centenary game at Twickenham. Video Highlights

Back to the 1st team pitch at Esher and it was the England Women’s turn to face the Welsh, a grudge game following last year’s Six Nations where Wales became the only team to beat England in the competition in four years. Revenge was sweet for England, running in five tries to secure a resounding 31-0 win. Video Highlights

On Sunday after the youth section training and matches the England A’s then beat the Nomads for the first time in 3 years. Report

So all in all a feast of great rugby which can only leave us hungry for next weekend’s offering, a first XV clash with an in-form Tynedale and more 6 Nations action on the big screen...
See you in the bar!
