The management of Esher Rugby would like to respond to some ill-judged and misinformed comments made by the Club's former head coach, Ollie Smith, in the local press this week.
The Club has very clear objectives in the short and long term, including the proposed development of a new grandstand - an area in which progress continues to be made. Under the direction of chief executive Mike Schmid, the Club is on a more sound administrative footing than it ever has been, and views the forthcoming season in National One with great optimism.
The Club gave Ollie his first opportunity as a coach, and everyone involved at Esher Rugby wishes him well as his career develops.
We are now considering a number of options with regard to the future coaching set-up, with interviews taking place over the course of the next week. It is hoped to make a formal announcement as to the new structure within seven days. Ricky Nebbett will continue as interim head coach until a permanent appointment is made.
