Our under 10s took part in the Wimbledon Festival, as it is a youth event scores are given as one point per try scored. Due to Old Wimbledonians not turning up, our first match we won with a bye, followed by a loss to our arch rivals Cobham in a closer 3-1 game than they were expecting. Twice victory was in our grasp! The team then woke up and raised their game by beating Kings Rugby by a whopping 7-1. Momentum was with the team who then fought Wimbledon RFC hard, scoring 3 in the first half, but tired tackling in the second half gave Wimbledon a 3-3 draw and our chances of a Cup Final place had gone. With Cobham winning their final group game, this gave us a chance at silverware with the Plate Final against Old Reigations.
The coaches worked hard during a long break to keep the team motivated, and the final started incredibly well with a try within 30 seconds. This was then followed by a second. Due to it being early season and with competition for places, we made eight substitutions during half time so everyone got a game, and this fresh team continued the pressure that we had poured onto Reigations from the first minute. Final score 3-1.
The forwards were under intense pressure throughout the day, but all six did anexemplary job in holding the ball up for the scrum half and also making crucial forward momentum through the opposition. When the backs got the ball, many of their runs finished with a tries. Once or twice during each match, there were some truly beautiful passes and movement, which is a fantastic difference from last season. A satisfying win, and well done to all involved.
