Current U18 Aleks Næss-Clarke captained Norway U18's in last weekends local derby match v Sweden. The game played in Vannersborg, Sweden was a tight affair with Sweden who were trialing a number of players for their ENC matches next year. The game was played in perfect conditions and was a hard fought affair, with plenty of good rugby on show from both sides. Norway eventually ran out winners 20-25, which prepares the team well for their forthcoming Scandinavian Tri-fixture and training camp with Denmark and Sweden U18's in Malmo, Sweden in October.
Aleks, playing at 10, commented that 'it was a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved and a great honour to play and captain my country in an historic victory over Sweden, all the players gave 100% and I'm very proud that together we achieved a fantastic victory for our growing rugby federation'.
The Norway squad was made up of predominantly home based players from clubs in Oslo, Bergen ,Stavanger and Fredrikstad. But were supplemented by Aleks and another Anglo-Viking, Lars Thorikildsen from Healthfield and Waldron RFC in Sussex.
Aleks, who has been at Esher since he was eight, can be seen on Sunday's playing for the U18's in Surrey league 1 and midweek, training the U15's at Esher as 'backs coach'.
